Standardisation

The Standard High German (German) originated from the Saxon clerical language. Martin Luther, used a clerical language based on the East Central German dialect in the Bible translation, issued in 1534. Both, the popularisation of Lutheranism and invention of printing press, contributed to spreading this language. The Standard High German was adopted in Prussia, which soon became the leader among the German states.
